Introducing: The Rucker's Edge

Rucking changed my life. And I’m hopeful this rucking podcast will change yours too.
The Rucker’s Edge is a podcast about building strength and energy through rucking (walking with weight).
On this show, we’ll explore why rucking is the ideal lower-impact workout for busy people who want to lose weight, ease joint pain, and feel like themselves again without burning out or breaking down.
Whether you’re getting back into fitness or just trying to keep up with your kids, this podcast will help you take that first weighted step with a simple and sustainable plan.

Welcome to the Rucker’s Edge podcast! A show designed to help develop your rucking routine, lose weight, and ultimately gain your strength and energy back. Whether you're an office worker with lower back pain, a fitness first timer, or a parent trying to get back to your pre-kids weight, this is the show for you.
I'm your host Spencer. I'm a former runner, now a dad with a desk job. And for a while, I thought I was still in shape.
But one day at work, I got winded just walking up a flight of stairs and my coworker looked at me half jokingly and said, “man, we got to get you on a physical fitness plan”.
And that hit me.
Up until then, I had been lying to myself, telling myself I was still active, still fit, still capable, but I wasn't. Not anymore.
And the signs had been there. I couldn't keep up with my kids like I used to. Even dancing through my daughter's favorite Disney song left me winded.
And if you're a parent, you know that kids are just getting warmed up after one song.
That moment at work flipped a switch in me. I decided this is not who I want to be for myself, for my family.
So I did what I knew. I went for a run. Even though my doctors previously warned me that I should stop running for good several years earlier due to ankle issues.
Well, the run lasted about three quarters of a mile before my ankle said, “yeah, this is not happening, bud”.
Years of joint pain, ankle sprains, health conditions, and anatomical issues had caught up with me.
Running wasn't just hard, it hurt. So I went back to the doctor.
This time they looked me in the eyes and said it again, plain as day, “Stop running! Find something
lower impact!”
So I tried stationary bikes, the elliptical, rowing, swimming, and other equipment in the gym. None of it stuck. Either I was bored or I hated paying for something I didn't enjoy.
Then one day I opened my fitness app and saw a friend had logged an activity called Rucking. I was vaguely familiar with it but wanted to see what he had to say about it, so I called him up.
He told me, Rucking is walking with a weighted backpack.
Simple, relatively low impact, legit cardio, strength building, and it burns calories like crazy. But most of all, it's sustainable. That last part sold me.
I thought, “wait, I can go back to the trails I used to run and actually enjoy moving again?!”
I've been rucking ever since and it completely changed my life.
My back pain: gone.
My energy: better than it's been in years.
And most importantly, I can chase my kids around without falling apart.
Now I think of rucking as a gateway workout. I'm a much more active person now. I even started biking to work when weather permits and my schedule allows.
It's simple enough for beginners, tough enough for veterans, and powerful enough to change the way you feel without breaking your body.
It gave me an edge.
It gave me an edge on strength, energy, and longevity. That's why I started this podcast.
The goal of The Rucker's Edge is to introduce rucking to people who need a realistic path to getting stronger, leaner, and more energized.
We'll kick things off with the beginner series, where I'll walk you through the top benefits of rucking in my opinion, what gear you actually need, how to prepare your body, how to structure your first ruck, and how to recover without getting wrecked.
After that, we'll dive deeper, goal setting, blister management, different rucking workouts, and all the weirdly helpful stuff I've learned along the way.
Now, important disclaimer, I'm not a doctor, this podcast is for entertainment and informational purposes only.
But I am a regular guy who got tired of being tired and found a way to build a better, stronger version of myself.
